The Appalachian Trail runs roughly 2,190 miles from Springer Mountain in northern Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine, crossing fourteen states along the spine of the Appalachian Mountains. The southern terminus at Springer Mountain is accessed by an eight-mile approach trail from Amicalola Falls State Park, making the Georgia section a popular starting point for thru-hikers who begin in early spring. Shorter day hikes to Blood Mountain and Tray Mountain offer summit views without a multi-month commitment.
