A national recreation area spanning the Wyoming-Montana border along Bighorn Lake, formed by Yellowtail Dam on the Bighorn River. The canyon walls rise up to 1,000 feet in the core section, cut through the Bighorn uplift in bands of Mississippian limestone. Wild horses descended from historic ranch stock roam the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range adjacent to the park and are frequently visible from the roads on the Montana side. Boating, fishing, and horseback access to the canyon backcountry are the primary visitor activities.
