A range of glacially sculpted granite peaks in south-central Idaho, including 57 peaks over 10,000 feet and more than 300 alpine lakes in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The Stanley Basin at the range's northern foot is frequently among the coldest inhabited places in the continental United States in winter. The Redfish Lake corridor provides accessible access to the range with lakeshore camping and boat shuttles to trailheads. The jagged ridgeline silhouette, particularly from the highway near Stanley, is among the most dramatic mountain profiles in the Rocky Mountain West.
