A mountain resort community in central Idaho's Wood River Valley, established in 1936 as the first destination ski resort in the United States. Bald Mountain, the primary ski terrain, offers more than 3,000 feet of uninterrupted vertical descent from summit to base. The Sawtooth Mountains to the north and the Boulder Mountains to the east frame the valley with dramatic ridgelines. In summer the area draws cyclists, fly fishermen on Silver Creek, and hikers into the adjacent Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
