A 68-mile stretch of US Route 212 connecting Red Lodge, Montana, to Cooke City at the northeast entrance of Yellowstone, crossing a high plateau at nearly 11,000 feet along the Beartooth Mountains. The road ascends through a series of switchbacks with sweeping views over glacially carved cirques and alpine lakes, passing through a landscape that remains snowbound for much of the year. It is considered one of the premier scenic drives in the United States and is typically open only from late May through October.
