A national park in the Chihuahuan Desert of southeastern New Mexico preserving a network of more than 119 known caves, including the Big Room, one of the largest cave chambers in North America at 4,000 feet long. The self-guided Big Room trail circles the chamber past formations including the Rock of Ages stalagmite. A 7-mile natural entrance trail spirals down 750 feet through the cave mouth. From late spring through fall, hundreds of thousands of Brazilian free-tailed bats emerge from the cave entrance at dusk in a spectacular flight.
