A remote park in eastern Nevada near the Utah border, centered on 13,063-foot Wheeler Peak and one of the few old-growth bristlecone pine groves accessible in the Great Basin. The park also contains Lehman Caves, a single large limestone cavern system with ornate shield formations, stalactites, and cave bacon rare among American caverns. The summit of Wheeler Peak is reachable by trail and provides expansive views across the Nevada desert. The park is among the least visited in the lower 48 but holds one of the darkest skies in the region.
