A concrete arch-gravity dam straddling the Nevada-Arizona border on the Colorado River, completed in 1936 as one of the largest construction projects of its era. The dam created Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States by volume. A two-lane highway crosses the dam crest between visitor facilities on each state. The adjacent Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge offers an aerial perspective looking directly down on the dam and the canyon. Guided tours descend into the dam's interior power generation facilities.
