Nevada's oldest state park, located an hour northeast of Las Vegas, preserving brilliant vermilion Aztec sandstone formations and one of the Southwest's richest concentrations of ancient Puebloan petroglyphs. The park's signature features include the Fire Wave, a rippled rock surface of red and white swirling layers, and Elephant Rock, a naturally sculpted arch visible from the road. The Atlatl Rock site displays petroglyphs accessible via a short metal stairway. Temperature extremes limit comfortable visits to fall through spring.
