A sandstone formation on the Arizona-Utah border in the Coyote Buttes North area of the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, famous for its undulating troughs of swirling red and orange Navajo sandstone. The formations resemble a frozen wave of layered color. Access is strictly controlled by a permit lottery managed by the Bureau of Land Management, with a limited number of daily walk-in and advance permits. The 6-mile round-trip route across open slickrock is unmarked and requires navigation skills.
