Mesa Arch

A thin sandstone arch perched at the rim of Island in the Sky mesa in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. At sunrise, light reflects off the canyon walls below and illuminates the underside of the arch in bright orange, producing one of the most sought-after photography compositions in the Southwest. The trail from the parking area is a short, level half-mile loop. Photographers typically arrive well before dawn to secure position along the arch.
