An isolated mountain range in southeastern Arizona that harbors thousands of volcanic rhyolite columns and balanced rock formations, the result of an ancient eruption and subsequent erosion. The Balanced Rock Trail and Big Balanced Rock are among the most striking features. The monument's remote location supports diverse wildlife including coati, white-tailed deer, and numerous bird species, drawing birders from across the country. The area holds significance for the Chiricahua Apache people.
