The Hoh Rain Forest on the Olympic Peninsula receives an average of 140 inches of precipitation per year, making it one of the largest temperate rain forests in the United States. Massive Sitka spruce and western red cedar draped in club moss and licorice fern create a dense green canopy, while the Hall of Mosses trail is among the most photographed forest interiors in North America. Roosevelt elk are commonly seen throughout the valley, particularly in winter when herds gather near the river.
