North Cascades National Park in the northeastern corner of Washington State contains some of the most rugged and glaciated terrain in the lower 48 states, with more than 300 glaciers and deep valleys carved by repeated ice ages. The park complex encompasses Ross Lake and Lake Chelan National Recreation Areas, and the North Cascades Scenic Highway through the Skagit Valley provides the primary road access through otherwise trailless wilderness. Wildlife including North Cascades grizzly bears, wolverines, and lynx range through the remote interior.
