Mount Hood is a potentially active stratovolcano and the highest peak in Oregon at 11,249 feet, dominating the skyline east of Portland across a distance of 50 miles. The mountain's permanent snowfields and glaciers support year-round skiing at Timberline Lodge, a 1937 National Historic Landmark notable for its hand-crafted interior woodwork and stone construction. The reflection of the peak in the still surface of Mirror Lake on clear mornings is among the most reproduced mountain photographs in the Pacific Northwest.
