Pinnacles National Park in the Gabilan Mountains east of the Salinas Valley preserves the eroded remnants of an ancient volcano, characterized by towering spires, talus caves, and steep canyon walls. The park is one of the few reintroduction sites for the California condor, and birds are frequently visible soaring on thermals above the rocky formations. Spring wildflowers and mild temperatures make the east entrance trails particularly attractive between February and April.
