Point Lobos State Natural Reserve south of Carmel is a headland of rocky coves, sea caves, and kelp forests often described as the jewel of the California State Park system. The reserve's network of short coastal trails passes tide pools, cypress groves, and overlooks frequented by sea otters, harbor seals, and California sea lions. Whalers Cove offers one of the most accessible shore diving sites on the central coast.
