Sequoia National Park in the southern Sierra Nevada protects the largest trees by volume on Earth, including General Sherman Tree, which stands 275 feet tall and is estimated to be over 2,000 years old. The Giant Forest plateau contains five of the ten largest known trees, all accessible via paved trails and shuttle bus. In winter, the snowcapped groves create a striking visual contrast between the burnt-orange bark and white forest floor.
