A chain of 20 volcanic islands extending 80 kilometres northwest from the Mamanuca group in western Fiji, the Yasawa Islands are characterised by dramatic hillside topography, clear-blue bays, and traditional villages that maintain Fijian customs relatively unchanged by mass tourism. The Blue Lagoon at the northern end of the chain, with its vivid turquoise water enclosed by sandbanks, is among the most recognisable natural features of the Fijian outer islands.
