Lake Hillier is a bubblegum-pink salt lake on Middle Island in the Recherche Archipelago off the south coast of Western Australia, separated from the Southern Ocean by a narrow strip of woodland. Unlike similar pink lakes in the state's interior, Lake Hillier's colour remains stable year-round, and the source of its pink pigmentation — debated between algae, bacteria, and halophile archaea — continues to be studied. The lake is most effectively seen and photographed from the air, accessible on scenic flights from Esperance.
