Mount Kosciuszko at 2,228 metres is the highest point in Australia and the Australian Alps, situated within Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains of southern New South Wales. A chairlift from Thredbo village provides access to the summit trail, which can be walked on a 13-kilometre return route across alpine meadows and snowfields in summer. The mountain's broad rounded summit is characteristic of ancient glacially-worked terrain, contrasting with the more dramatic peaks of the main Great Dividing Range further north.
