The Great Ocean Road stretches 243 kilometres along Victoria's southwest coast between Torquay and Allansford, threading through surf towns, temperate rainforest, and the limestone sea-stack coastline of Port Campbell National Park. Built by returned soldiers as a memorial between 1919 and 1932, it follows clifftops, curves through forested gullies, and descends to beach-level at several points. The road is the primary access route to the Otway Ranges hinterland and the major coastal formations including the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, and London Arch.
