The Glass House Mountains are eleven volcanic plugs rising abruptly from the flat Sunshine Coast hinterland north of Brisbane, remnants of magma that solidified within ancient volcanic vents and remained after surrounding rock eroded. Named by James Cook in 1770, the peaks are sacred to the Jinibara people and feature in their traditions. Several peaks including Mount Ngungun and Mount Beerburrum have maintained walking tracks leading to panoramic views across the Sunshine Coast to Moreton Bay.
