Wave Rock is a granite inselberg located 350 kilometres east of Perth near the town of Hyden, its south face sculpted into a curved overhang 15 metres high and 110 metres long that resembles a breaking ocean wave. Chemical weathering over millions of years created the hollow undercut form, and vertical streaks of red and ochre mineral staining give the surface a vivid coloured pattern. The surrounding Hyden Wildlife Park protects additional granite outcrops and endemic Wheatbelt vegetation.
