Hutt Lagoon is a 70-square-kilometre salt lake near Port Gregory on the Mid West coast of Western Australia, its colour varying from pale pink to vivid magenta depending on light conditions, season, and algae concentration. The carotenoid pigments produced by Dunaliella salina algae are responsible for the colouration, which reaches its most intense hue during summer. The lake is most effectively photographed from the air, though roadside views from the Hutt Lagoon road are accessible by vehicle.
