The Kimberley occupies the remote far northwest of Western Australia, a vast plateau of ancient sandstone and basalt carved by rivers that flood dramatically each wet season. The region contains some of Australia's oldest rock art, boab trees unique to the area, and dramatic formations including the Bungle Bungles and the Horizontal Falls in Talbot Bay. Access depends on the season, with many areas reachable only by four-wheel drive or charter aircraft.
