Cable Beach extends 22 kilometres north of Broome along the Indian Ocean coast, its hard-packed tidal sand giving way to warm, clear water. The beach takes its name from the undersea telegraph cable that once came ashore here from Java. Sunset on the western horizon produces intensely coloured skies, and camel trains walking along the shoreline at that hour have become a signature image of the Kimberley coast.
