Stretching seven kilometres along Whitsunday Island, Whitehaven Beach is composed of 98-percent pure silica sand that remains cool to the touch in tropical heat and appears bright white under direct sun. Hill Inlet at the northern end creates swirling tidal patterns of turquoise and white that are widely recognised as a signature aerial image of the Queensland coast. Access is by boat or seaplane from Airlie Beach.
