Penang National Park occupies the northwestern tip of Penang island and protects 2,562 hectares of mixed coastal ecosystems including mangrove, dipterocarp forest, and secluded beaches accessible only by boat or jungle trail. Turtle Beach at Pantai Kerachut is a rare meromictic lake site where freshwater and saltwater layers coexist, and green turtles nest on the adjacent beach seasonally. The park is the smallest national park in Malaysia but among the most ecologically diverse.
