Danum Valley in Sabah preserves 438 square kilometres of lowland dipterocarp forest that has never been commercially logged, making it one of the most biologically intact and studied rainforest tracts in Borneo. The forest shelters viable populations of Bornean orangutans, pygmy elephants, and clouded leopards, with the elevated boardwalk canopy walkway providing exceptional wildlife photography opportunities at dawn. Scientific research stations within the valley have contributed significantly to understanding tropical ecology.
