At 4,095 metres, Mount Kinabalu is the highest peak in Southeast Asia between the Himalayas and New Guinea, dominating the skyline of interior Sabah, Borneo. The two-day summit climb via the Timpohon Trail passes through distinct vegetation zones from lowland dipterocarp forest to bare granite above the treeline, where sunrise views from Low's Peak extend across Borneo to the distant Philippine islands. The surrounding Kinabalu Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is noted for extraordinary botanical diversity including over 600 orchid species.
