The Perhentian Islands lie off the northeast coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the South China Sea and consist of two main islands — Besar and Kecil — surrounded by some of the clearest inshore waters in the region. Coral reefs accessible directly from the beach make them a favourite for snorkellers and novice divers, with sea turtles commonly sighted at nesting sites. The islands are closed to visitors during the monsoon season from November to February.
