Also known as the Golden Rock, Kyaiktiyo Pagoda is a gilded granite boulder balanced apparently impossibly at the edge of a clifftop on Mount Kyaiktiyo in Mon State. Buddhist tradition holds that the boulder is held in place by a hair of the Buddha enshrined within a small stupa on its surface, and the site is among the most important pilgrimage destinations in Myanmar, drawing particularly large crowds during the cool season. The approach involves a truck ride from the base town of Kinpun and a walk up steep mountain paths, or a cable car for part of the ascent.
