Established in 1962 as Vietnam's first national park, Cúc Phương protects a forested limestone massif in Ninh Bình Province, about 130 kilometres south of Hà Nội. The park is home to the Endangered Primate Rescue Center and the Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Program, both of which allow supervised visits. Ancient trees, some over a thousand years old, rise from a ravine at the centre of the park, and the cave of Con Moong contains prehistoric human remains estimated at around 7,500 years old.
