A coastal city in Khánh Hòa Province, Nha Trang has a long crescent beach backed by a palm-lined promenade and faces an island-studded bay in the South China Sea. The Ponagar Cham towers, constructed between the seventh and twelfth centuries on a hillock above the Cái River estuary, are the most significant historical monuments in the city. The surrounding bay islands are accessible by boat and offer snorkelling reefs, although coral cover has been reduced by development and warming water temperatures.
