A hill station city in the Lâm Đồng Province of Vietnam's Central Highlands, Đà Lạt occupies a plateau at roughly 1,500 metres elevation where French colonial administrators established a resort retreat in the early twentieth century. The surrounding landscape is characterised by pine forests, flower farms, strawberry fields, and a series of waterfalls including Datanla and Pongour. The city's French-influenced architecture — villas, a colonial railway station, and a Romanesque cathedral — gives it a visual character unlike any other Vietnamese city.
