Pha Taem National Park occupies a stretch of Mekong River cliffs in Ubon Ratchathani Province near the Laotian border. The park's cliff faces carry prehistoric rock paintings estimated to be between 3,000 and 4,000 years old, depicting human figures, animals, and geometric shapes in red ochre. The cliffs themselves rise 200 metres above the Mekong and provide extensive views across the river into Laos. Mushroom-shaped sandstone formations and the Sam Phan Bok rock hollows in the river bed are additional features within the park.
