Ko Samet is a small island in Rayong Province about 200 kilometres east of Bangkok, protected within Mu Ko Samet National Park. The island's beaches are made of unusually fine white sand, and Hat Sai Kaew on the northeastern tip is the busiest. The relatively short distance from Bangkok makes it a popular weekend destination for city residents, and accommodation ranges from guesthouses to mid-range resorts. The island's size and topography make it walkable between several of the beaches along the west-facing coast.
