Nong Khai is a riverside town on the Mekong in northeastern Thailand, connected to Vientiane, Laos by the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. The town is known for Sala Kaew Ku, an eccentric sculpture park created by mystic artist Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, containing massive concrete statues of Hindu and Buddhist deities in surreal combinations. The riverfront promenade is a gathering point for evening markets and river views. The town serves as the main entry point for overland travel to Laos.
