Hua Hin is a coastal resort town on the upper Gulf of Thailand in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, about 200 kilometres south of Bangkok by road. The town became the site of a royal summer palace — Klai Kangwon — in the 1920s and has maintained a reputation as a more refined alternative to Pattaya. A night market along the beachfront and a historic railway station with a Victorian-style waiting room are among the town's distinctive features. The beach extends several kilometres and is generally calmer than Gulf beaches further south.
