Kanchanaburi

Kanchanaburi is a provincial town on the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai rivers, known primarily for its Second World War history as the site of the Death Railway constructed by Allied prisoners of war and Asian labourers under Japanese command. The Bridge on the River Kwai, while not the original structure, spans a location near the town centre and is now a major memorial site. The Thailand-Burma Railway Centre museum and the JEATH War Museum provide detailed historical documentation. The broader province includes national parks, waterfalls, and border passes into Myanmar.
