Erawan National Park in Kanchanaburi Province is best known for the Erawan Waterfall, a seven-tiered cascade along the Mak Khaeng Stream whose pools are coloured an unusual jade-green by calcium carbonate deposits on the limestone streambed. Each successive tier is accessible by trail, with the upper pools requiring more effort to reach and consequently seeing fewer visitors. The surrounding forest supports populations of hornbills, gibbons, and wild boar. The park is a common destination for day trips from Bangkok, approximately three hours to the south.
