Wat Phra Singh is the largest and most architecturally elaborate of Chiang Mai's old city temples, founded in 1345 during the Lanna Kingdom and named after the Phra Singh Buddha image housed in its viharn. The viharn itself is a fine example of classic Lanna wooden architecture with a multi-tiered roof and intricate carved pediment, and its interior walls carry faded murals depicting Lanna court life. The temple is located at the western end of Ratchadamnoen Road and is a focal point of the Songkran and Yi Peng festivals.
