Doi Inthanon is Thailand's highest peak at 2,565 metres, located within Doi Inthanon National Park about 80 kilometres southwest of Chiang Mai. The summit is regularly shrouded in mist and at cooler temperatures than the surrounding lowlands, and the approach road passes through montane forests that are among the best bird-watching habitats in the country. Two royal chedi memorials built in the 1980s stand near the summit and are surrounded by manicured gardens. The park also includes several waterfalls fed by streams descending from the highlands.
