Kata Beach is a two-kilometre crescent of white sand on Phuket's southwestern coast, separated by a short headland from Karon Beach to the north. The bay is divided by a small rocky outcrop into Kata Yai (Big Kata) and Kata Noi (Little Kata), with the latter being the more secluded option. Viewpoint Hill between Kata and Karon provides a much-reproduced elevated perspective over both bays and the offshore islands of Ko Pu and Ko Man. During the wet season, the beach is a popular surf break.
