Ko Lanta is a long, forested island in southern Krabi Province separated from the mainland by a narrow channel and connected by ferry. Its western coast offers a succession of beaches that grow progressively quieter toward the south, with Klong Dao in the north being the most developed and Kantiang Bay in the south among the most sheltered. Ko Lanta Old Town at the southeastern tip is a historic Chao Le sea-nomad village with well-preserved wooden shophouses on stilts over the water. The island retains a comparatively relaxed atmosphere relative to busier Andaman destinations.
