Phang Nga Bay is a large estuary on the west coast of the Thai isthmus, dotted with more than 40 limestone karst islands that protrude vertically from the sea's surface. The area is a designated national park and is best explored by sea canoe, which allows passage into caves and hongs — interior lagoons hidden within hollow karst formations. Ko Tapu, a slender rock pillar sometimes called James Bond Island after its film appearance, is the bay's most-photographed landmark. Light conditions are generally best in the early morning hours.
