A deep green reservoir formed by the Xindian River as it narrows between forested hillsides at the southern edge of New Taipei, Bitan is a popular weekend recreational area accessible directly from Taipei by the Xindian MRT line. A pedestrian suspension bridge crosses the river at its narrowest point, and bicycle and paddle-boat rentals along the riverside promenade are the primary activities alongside the surrounding café and traditional snack culture.
