A high mountain area on the Central Cross-Island Highway at elevations of 3,000–3,400 metres, Hehuanshan (Mount Hehuan) is Taiwan's most accessible high-altitude destination and the principal winter snow-viewing site for lowland Taiwanese. In warmer months the rolling sub-alpine grassland, hemlock forest, and series of accessible peaks along a ridge trail offer panoramic Central Range vistas with minimal technical difficulty.
