An archipelago of 90 basalt islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait, Penghu is defined by its hexagonal columnar basalt formations — most spectacularly exposed at Tongpan Islet and Jigang Wall — alongside white sand beaches, turquoise lagoons, and traditional stone-walled fishing villages. The islands receive strong seasonal winds that have shaped both the architecture and local culture, and now host significant wind-sport tourism in spring.
